A small sampling of what I saw yesterday while walking to work:

Snow Fairy
The coolest snow fairy you never made. Seen on Carpenter Street near 8th Street.

Snow fairy closeup. Note the colorful mixed media approach to defining the features.

Winter Path
We finally got a real snowfall for the first time this winter.

Sooo, I really thought we were done with this. Seriously. Silly me, of course not...winter always throws a curve ball just when you think it's out of steam. A mix of snow and sleet has been blowing all day since before dawn. The fierce winds whipping around the city all day turns the frozen rain into stinging pellets. If I didn't have to run some errands, I would have not been out in the mess.

Good thing I hadn't put my long-johns away 'cause they certainly helped today. You ever notice how some people are in complete denial about bad weather once they get a taste of the warm stuff? Yeah, me too. They were all over the place today and you could see the anger and bewilderment on their faces as they bundled as best they could against the elements.

It was a perfect day for just hanging out under the covers watching a dvd...or something...

As promised, some snow shots from last weekend in Washington, D.C. Hopefully, this will be the last of the snow for this year but it was definitely beautiful... )

New self-portrait taken today just after I finished work. I had to take advantage of the great light streaming into the employee break room. I didn't even stop to take my earbuds out. By the time I had a couple of nice shots, I decided to leave them in.

We got another teaser of a snowfall sometime in the wee hours of the morning. I clocked in for work at nine and was done by twelve-thirty; the snow was just about done by then, too. While it was still pretty cold out, the sun was out in full force and that dusting was nothing more than a faint memory and mini puddles of water in the streets.

I've decided to do nothing of importance today. I'm just going to enjoy having a few hours during the day here in the apartment, hanging out with E and surfing the web a bit. I cooked lunch for us a little while ago and now, she's resting in bed. Early yesterday morning, she was on her way to the bathroom and unfortunately took a spill on the steps (my bathroom is down a flight of steps from my actual living space). She's ok, except for a very sore left arm and hip. Thankfully, that's all that happened...

The first real accumulation of snow we've had here started last night. I was out walking after work and couldn't resist the opportunity to get some shots just as the ground was being covered in a light dusting of the white stuff...

Snow day!!! Too bad I had to work. We were open the whole day and probably could have closed maybe three or four hours before our regular closing time. I wasn't there yesterday, but I'm betting that's when most people were in to buy food in anticipation of the storm. We didn't get enough snow to keep the store closed or to close early, so we stuck it out. We had some customers, but not enough to make it really worth it in terms of overhead.

I was out in the storm last night with my buddy, Tet. We were walking from a birthday celebration for one of our friends and all of a sudden, lightening flashed and thunder followed. All the while, its snowing like crazy and the white stuff was just beginning to stick to the sidewalks and cars. The flakes were huge and impossible to miss on your tongue.

I was excited to walk to work because I knew I'd get at least a couple of snow shots. These are the ones I liked the most:
