There's a new group show coming up at the Bridgette Mayer Gallery called, Black and White and the painting above is my contribution. This is the second year that Bridgette has had a group show's theme reflect colors-last year's was The Red Show.

Someone asked me if I had a problem working within the constraints of a certain color theme like 'black and white' since I'm known as a colorist. I told him that I didn't have a problem with it at all; if anything, I looked at it as a creative challenge. I had a good time with this work and I'm thinking about pursuing a series based on this idea.

I've become quite a bit of a shutterbug. Well, I suppose I've always have been, but having a good camera just makes the addiction that much stronger...

The camera and I are almost inseperable. It's ridiculous. Almost every day, I'm taking photos of something or other. One of the 'somethings' is myself. For the first time in my life, I have some control over how pictures of myself look. I had some control before, but it wasn't the same. Digital cameras have made it that much more possible to control how other people see you. That option has been spread out to everyone, not only professional photographers. Now, I can set the camera up, hit the timer and pose. Now, of course, I can't leave it at that. I'm also always trying to make them interesting somehow.

I've noticed that I'm not one for altering my photos much. Part of that may be due to not having Photoshop to play with right now, but more importantly, I find that I like a certain unvarnished look about my photos. I might play with shadows and lighting (natural vs. artificial), but that's about it for the time being.

By no means would I consider myself a photographer, but I certainly enjoy taking some of my creativity used for painting and applying it to this medium. I might consider taking a class to properly learn photography, but in the meantime, I'm learning a lot just by doing it.

So, getting back to self-portraits for a moment, I'm posting a few I took earlier today. I took advantage of the setting sun late this afternoon and these are a few that I liked:
